Sir Harriet Lea, 2025

The piece is an installation in my studio space at university. It is the office of the fictitious football manager, Sir Harriet Lea, who manages English football team, Hairyart Lea FC. The recruitment process for the team is based solely on the quality of the players' hairstyles and whether they are lavish and elegant enough to win the league. Current members of Hairyart Lea FC include, Robbie Savage and Paul Pogba. The installation reflects the journey through the latest season in football for the team and the hurdles a manager has to overcome to create the most dashing team. Posters, clothing, documents and ephemera all give the impression of a lived in office space.

This work was inspired by watching football games without any interest in the sport itself. I found it utterly ridiculous how the players would have such lavish hairstyles that are clearly very expensive and time consuming to maintain, to play a 90 minute game of rough football. It sparked ideas of identity in the football industry and priorities in the football industry. However, most of all, it made me laugh. Something so trivial was so important to the players and therefore, now it's important to me.
