WHAT’S GOING ON Here?
My name is Harriet Lea I am a multidisciplinary artist whose work aims to shed light on the nuances of everyday life. Based in West London and hailing from South Manchester, I use humour and parody to note the ridiculousness of certain simple aspects of British culture. The work is undoubtedly fun and playful. Instead of trying to push a harsh and political rhetoric, I ensure my art takes the audience's minds off adversity and guide the viewer to appreciate the small yet wacky parts of life.
My work is also littered with references to popular culture and my own previous work. This creates my own universe that exists simultaneously in reality and in fantasy. I want the audience to unpack the lore behind the work through small clues, to make them feel more included in the worlds I’ve constructed. There are elements of interaction and performance in my work as in order to create my pieces, I fully immerse myself in the fictitious worlds I create and also entice the audience into these worlds too.
I am currently studying Fine Art at Kingston School of Art and working as a dance teacher in Manchester whenever I am back in the north! I don’t aim to be confined to the traditional fine arts. I want my creative talents and taste to be used in any avenue it can and to, most importantly, have fun whilst doing it.
